KNOW THY ELF
After several weeks of previews, James Kochalka's "American Elf" website has been fully launched. The pay site is a full color extension of Kochalka's "Sketchbook Diaries." Subscriptions to the daily-updated website cost $1.95 a month (or $1.00 per month for pre-existing Modern Tales subscribers). Each day's new strip is publicly availble, but access to the site's growing archive and other features is limited to subscribers.

THE LIGHTER SIDE OF SUPERFLUITY
Mad Magazine has announced a talent search via press release. To continue the recently deceased cartoonist Dave Berg's long-standing "The Lighter Side of..." feature, the magazine seeks "a cartoonist whose unique voice and offbeat view of the world will transform the feature into a MAD classic for a new generation," according to co-editor John Ficarra.

WOLFGANG'S WOODY
Chris Staros announces that Top Shelf will publish Kurt Wolfgang's next major project. "Pinokio," a 400 page silent graphic novel, will offer a morose, regretful and jaundiced take on the classic wooden puppet story. The book will be designed by Jordan Crane for release in 2003 or 2004.

SZYK: RARE WITNESS
Members of panel at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum agreed that Polish born cartoonist Arthur Szyk was among only a relative handful of American cartoonists who drew attention to Nazi atrocities during World War II. Szyk is the subject of an exhibit currently on display at the Museum.

Times and Private Eye cartoonist Tony Husband has been chronicling in his "Yobs" strip the emerging case of a serial killer operating as a physician in the artist's home town of Hyde. Harold Shipman was the town's trusted family physician for twenty three years before it was discovered that he had murdered more than 200 of his patients.
